I painted this scene inside the blacksmith shop at Historic Westville Village, drawn to the warmth of the forge, the glow of firelight, and the feeling of history coming alive around me. While painting en plein air, I decided to include the blacksmith himself working at the fire, a challenge that ended up becoming one of my favorite parts of the piece.
This painting preserves the craftsmanship, storytelling, and slower rhythm of a place that feels deeply connected to an older way of life in Georgia.
